Pathways tries to ensure that all users who come to see us are treated in an individual way so we can suggest computer solutions which are specific to their needs. Pathways offers these services free of charge. There is no such person as a "typical" user, they may vary from having no experience whatsoever to someone who has many years experience. At the start a user will usually see the Project Worker who will introduce them to the computer equipment, the staff members, and volunteers.
Usually the Project Worker will make suggestions of appropriate computer hardware and software after discussing the users needs, with the
opportunity to test out this equipment. At this stage we will outline a number of options which could be a booking for the first appointment for
training at Pathways. We try not to pressurise people, the user controls the pace of learning, we try to encourage and support as much as possible. The user will then work with the Project Worker to gain a better understanding of the specialist software and hardware. It is likely that (as the user becomes more capable of using the equipment) they will work with a volunteer and continue to practice. |
