The main objective of Cambridge Online formerly known as Cambridge Online City (COLC) is the creation and delivery of community information, internet access, and guidance and training in using new and emerging technologies. Cambridge Online seeks to involve the whole community in these activities, developing key skills, and ensuring equality of access to local and world-wide information networks. Cambridge Online seeks particularly to support groups of people who might otherwise be marginalized or disadvantaged by not being part of the information society. Cambridge Online's main activity is Pathways, which provides computer training and advice for disabled and disadvantaged people in Cambridge. Cambridge Online was established as Cambridge Online City by Anne Campbell MP in 1995, in order to increase access to public information through the use of the internet. It was clear even in 1995 that, as the internet took off, those without the appropriate skills or access would be left behind. Cambridge Online works to ensure that opportunities to develop relevant skills and use high quality equipment are available to the whole community. A strength of the project has been the partnership of diverse groups and organisations committed to this objective, harnessing the support of local businesses, public authorities, voluntary groups as well as dedicated individuals.
