Petersfield Streets for People - We live here!

Are you concerned about:

  • speeding cars in your street?
  • traffic noise and pollution?
  • the safety of your children and pets?
Do you remember when streets were:
  • child friendly?
  • meeting places for neighbours?
  • a pleasant environment to live in?

Last year PACT co-sponsored two events where local residents came together and told us how they wanted. Afterwards a report was written and submitted to our local councils. It contained many proposals, including:

  • lower speed limits (10-20 mph)
  • street furniture
  • strategic planting of trees and shrubs
  • home zones

Following on from the report, three specific ideas have been proposed to improve Petersfield's streets:

  • 1. Gateway features at the main road entrances to Petersfield. These might include creative use of planting, change of road surface, and tasteful signs to provide visual cues that a residential area is being entered. Our streets are not just short cuts or a car parks - we live here.
  • 2. Getting rid of wheelie bins which permanently obstruct pavements. The situation is particularly bad in streets with no front gardens, some of which are now impossible to negotiate with a pushchair or disabled buggy. Special wheelie bin parking bays was one of the suggestions.
  • 3. Stopping rat running down Petworth Street by extending and improving the small St.Matthew's Street park across to the church.
Let us know what you think about these ideas. Maybe you have some suggestions of your own?
