Help in Schools Challenge Programme

Volunteers are required to act as facilitators for teams of secondary school pupils (aged 13-15), enabling them to create and carry out their own community projects.

The Challenge Programme successfully encourages young people to engage with local community issues and to better understand and contribute to their communities in a responsible and mutually beneficial way.

    Co-pilot Scheme

    Each one of us needs to be the pilot of our own lives - only we can be ultimately responsible for the choices we make. However at some times in our lives we all need extra support and encouragement.

    Many people have met someone at school, work, college or socially who has helped them or inspired them in some way. Sometimes the person is older and sometimes the same age, it doesn't really matter. What's important is the support and trust in the mentoring relationship.

    Become a mentor and help provide positive partnerships by either:

  • being a 'buddy' to another young person on an equal basis or
  • being an older mentor, chosen by the young person as someone they respect and want to learn from

    Everyone involved benefits in a number of ways;

  • through mutual encouragement
  • listening to or giving friendly advice or
  • gaining a different perspective on life!

    Training will cover how to work with your mentee including how to support them and yourself. It will also look at the process of getting to know one another and your expectations, plus how to deal with problems when they arise.

    Assisting with a course and helping out at workshops

    Assist with the 'I Believe I Can Fly' course which aims to develop confidence and self worth in young people with the hope that they will be more able to use their lives effectively. The name is inspired by the R. Kelly song, and when given encouragement and appropriate support young people can be a positive part of our community.

    Volunteers are needed to assist the staff over eight sessions. They could also help run the interactive workshops and other group work.
