A Flamenco-inspired art exhibition will be hosted at New Hall College by artist and 3rd year PhD student, Alicia Murcia on the 11th of May from 12.30 until 2.30. All the profits will be donated to international orphan charity, SOS Children's Villages, whose UK head quarters are in Cambridge. This will be a very special opportunity for the public to view and buy paintings and to meet with the Spanish artist.  The entrance to New Hall College is Huntingdon Road, Cambridge. The Porter's Lodge at New Hall will indicate its exact location to visitors. The exhibition is open to the public daily from 10am to 6pm.  The open reception is on the 11th of May, from 12:30 to 2.30 pm. For further information about the artist and the exhibition visit her website www.aliciamurcia.com.

Is God real or a delusion? The views of God that are sometimes described as delusive may be unclear and imperfect. Is there a clearer, more perfect view of God that comes closer to being demonstrably true? Would an ability to heal as some of Jesus’ disciples healed provide evidence of the reality of God? Open, public discussion meeting on Sunday 11 May 2008 at 3.30 p.m. at the Christian Science Reading Room, 96 Regent Street, Cambridge CB2 1DP. People who attended Daniel Scott’s lecture on this topic on 25 April are welcome to bring questions and ideas for discussion from that lecture. More information from Cambridge 276912 or ddw@aber.ac.uk.

The Andy Bowie Quartet has played successfully every Sunday for 9 years at the Elm Tree pub in Cambridge. Sadly with this pub changing hands, the regular jazz and blues, which have been going for three and more nights a week for 12 years is being stopped. The last gig there is Monday 28th April. Fortunately this act of cultural vandalism can be countered by our moving to the Cricketers pub, which is literally next door, beginning May 4th. Free, every Sunday at 8.30pm. Sax-led modern jazz from Ellington to Shorter from ever-expanding repertoire, in a new, larger venue.

Cam Valley Forum is arranging a short guided walk along the river Shep near Boot Lane, Barrington on Saturday morning 10 May. The walk will be led by a member of Friends of the River Shep (FORSHEP) who will talk about the work that FORSHEP carried a few years ago to make this stretch of the river a better place for wildlife and people. There will also be an opportunity to see recent work by the Barrington Conservation Trust. After the walk we will meet in the village hall for refreshments and to talk about how local groups can improve the management of streams and small rivers, and the sources of help and funding available to them. We will meet at the village hall at 10am. This event is free and open to all - why not join us?

Any artists & crafts people who would like to submit their work for an exhibition at the Michaelhouse centre which will run from the end of August till the end of September?  We are particularly hoping to reach artists who have a connection to both Cambridge  who also have had some experience of mental health issues, in the broadest sense. We are COAST: Cambridge Outsider Arts Team team.  Our email is coast@live.co.uk.  the deadline for submissions is the 7th July 2008.  We have a small budget to help with things like framing and artist materials and are also looking for volunteers who might like to help with this project.

Wicken's Community First Responder Group was one year old on 25th February. We've had a great year and helped 12 people - quite a lot for a village of 720 people! Cases have ranged from asthma attacks, heart attacks and falls to a suspected drowning. We need more volunteer First Responders because two of our seven volunteers will be leaving the village shortly. If any Wicken-based readers could come forward, that would be fantastic.
