The Phone Co-op
How to Join

Cambridge CDA has joined forces with The Phone Co-op - the only co-operative telecoms provider in the UK. They provide highly competitive rates and distribute profits back to the individuals and organisations that own it.

Make a difference - Make a call - Save up to 80% on calls and help develop the social economy. The Phone Co-op is ethical, great value and offers great service - it is also the UK's only telecoms co-operative:

  • It is owned and controlled by its members
  • It works solely for the benefit of its customers and members
  • It returns profits to its members via a dividend and a trust fund
  • All customers can become members for a minimum investment of 1
  • All members have a voice in the way The Phone Co-op is run
  • The Phone Co-op aims to be as environmentally friendly as possible. All Co2 pollution generated by its customers' calls and the running of The Phone Co-op are cancelled out through its membership of Climate Care.

By registering with the Phone Co-op through us you can dramatically cut your phone bill and at the same time we'll benefit by receiving 6% of the value of the calls you make. This will help us cover our running costs and further develop and promote enterprises who are trading for a social purpose in the Cambridge area

The Phone Co-op offers:

  • No set up charges
  • Average savings of 40%
  • 1p minimum call charge (compared to 4.2p from BT)
  • A FREE 0845 number (so family and friends can call you at a local rate from anywhere in the UK)
  • Free cost code billing service
  • BT numbers do not require a pre-fix number
  • No need to change your phone number
  • Become a member and have a voice in the way the Phone Co-op is run

Internet Services

The Phone Co-op offers Broadband access at 23.80 +VAT per month, Fixed Rate Access (100 hours max per month) at 14 plus VAT per month and Payless-as-you-go at 2.5p per min (peak), 1.1p per min (off-peak) and 0.8p per min at weekends.

How it works

You continue to pay line rental to BT (or your cable company). From most BT lines access to our service will be automated by BT.

If your access cannot be automated because you subscribe to either BT Call Divert or Call Barring then you can still use the Phone Co-op by dialling a 4 digit prefix.

BT services such as 1471, Answer 1571 or "Call Minder" remain unaffected.
