CAMTAD | Cambridge Campaign for Tackling Acquired Deafness |
LOTTERY HELPS HARD OF HEARINGCAMTAD, the local charity campaigning for and helping hard of hearing people has been granted 10,000 to promote deaf awareness through a project that we are sure will improve the future situation of hearing impaired people. It is to make a ten-minute DVD on Clear Speech and Deaf Awareness. It will be targeted at the hearing population whether colleagues or customers. It is important for people to know how helpful or harmful their speech behaviour can be for the hearing impaired. It will be punchy, humorous, professionally produced, professionally presented and will include location shots. It will be piloted in the Cambridge area and if successful rolled out nationally. The Chief Executive of the RNID thinks it is an excellent idea and there is nothing like it at present. It will be distributed to local businesses, statutory organisations, schools, colleges etc. and its format will mean that it can form part of a presentation or stand alone to be watched by individuals on their computers. The overall cost of production and distribution is about 15,000 and our charity, the Cambridge Campaign for Tackling Acquired Deafness (CAMTAD) is actively trying to raise this sum now. The lottery funding is a great step forward. If you would like to make a contribution please contact CAMTAD on 01223 416141 or write to them at 8A Romsey Terrace, Cambridge CB1 3NH. |
