BRITISH RED CROSS First Aid


The BRITISH RED CROSS gives
  • A planned programme of training preparing volunteers for the service area.
  • Training is done in modules, gradually building up as experience allows,
  • Induction period during which you can learn First Aid, Manual handling, Health and safety
  • Specific skills like listening, Infant and Child resuscitation, Ambulance driving and attendance skills
  • Each volunteer has a training profile which is reviewed regularly
  • Some volunteers training is in groups which by some is preferred this is also done.

    One question I ask you! what? when? do you give What is the training worth compared to the price of someone's life saved?

    Each National Society works to meet local needs.

    First Aid support at public events

    Public Duties Cambridge volunteers give many hours to provide a caring service at many public events. Our Ambulances are often in attendance with appropriately qualified people

    Therapeutic Care


    After full training, To enable volunteer to deliver hand care and neck / shoulder massage to people in hospital.

    This includes Manicure, Hand and Arm massage which is especially comforting after a stroke or when hands have become stiff and uncomfortable. This service is offered in hospital and at some of our centres. Shoulder and neck massages can also be offered by trained volunteers. This special service is only available through General Practitioner service and at Addenbrookes Hospital Cambridge.

    Transport and Escort

    Taking people in volunteers own car (or by public transport if Escorting)

    Most of our customers have a disability making travel difficult, they may be wheelchair dependant visually impaired, very frail or vulnerable. We help people to get to appointments. Attend important events like weddings graduations ceremonies to visit friends and enable them to deal with every day matters.
