Carbon footprint competition

Saturday 9th July 2005

We all cause the release of greenhouse gases as we go about our day to day life heating the house, driving the car, watching TV. The build-up of these gases, particularly carbon dioxide, is causing climate change a real problem for everyone in the world. To solve this we all need to cut back on our energy use.

At the street party we hope to work out the carbon footprint for all of us in Gwydir St and Milford St. This is a measure of how much carbon dioxide is released by each household. There will be prizes for the households with the smallest and biggest footprints; tips on how to reduce your footprint and the chance to enter a year-long carbon reduction challenge. (With more prizes.)

To take part you will need to know your annual gas and electricity bills, your car mileage and answer a few other easy questions. Please come and help make our streets the first in Cambridge to know the size of their own footprints and the best at reducing them.
