Cecilia Music is pleased to advise that a rare, full performance of J. S. Bach's keyboard masterpiece The Goldberg Variations will be given by the harpsichordist David Wright on Saturday 18 February at 3.00pm. This concert will take place in St Bene't's Church, Benet Street. With the dark afternoons almost behind us, it should still be light enough at the end of the concert to make it safely across the road for a warming pint or glass by the fire at The Eagle, opposite the church door. David Wright's 2007 CD recording on ZUM records was received with universal acclaim. Copies of the CD will be available at the concert for the special concert-goers' price of £10 each. However, we only have a limited stock so we will happily reserve a copy to be collected at the concert if you email us at ceciliamusic2000@yahoo.co.uk and let us know how many copies you would like. Tickets for this very special concert are best ordered in advance, which can be done by
clicking here and then clicking the blue WeGotTickets button to link to the secure purchase page of our ticketing partners, WeGotTickets.com. Ticket holders who purchase in advance can make use of the Advance Purchase Seating Area at the front left-hand side of the church, with the best views of the performer, although all seating is still on a first-come-first-seated basis.Further information is available on our website or by phoning the Cecilia Music Ticketline on 07956 033 603.

Vintage chiller at Ely gallery puts the ‘cult’ in culture. The 1957 movie Night of the Demon will lead the new CULTure Babylon series of events, aimed at all things off-beat and cult at Ely’s Babylon Gallery. This rare screening of Night of the Demon, on February 17 will include a talk by Tony Earnshaw, author of Beating the Devil – which tells the troubled story of how the movie was made – with getting past England’s censors being one of the biggest problems! Tony Earnshaw will outline the key highlights of the film with facts about the stars and locations that will fascinate both devotees of the film, and also those seeing it for the first time. Night of the Demon is based on the MR James story, Casting the Runes, and follows John Holden, a sceptical psychologist who gets the wrong side the leader of a sinister cult and finds he must race against time to cheat the curse put on him. Tickets are £8 and can be purchased from www.adec.org.uk or on 01353 616991 Babylon Gallery is located at Waterside, Ely, CB7 4AU. For further information contact

Spring into Love: 16th January – 15th February 2012. Cambridge Contemporary Crafts, 5 Bene't Street, is delighted to host this year’s Valentines Exhibition from Monday 16th January to Wednesday 15th February. For those of us with tighter wallets this year, Julie Pettitt’s delicate porcelain vases are great bargains, starting at £7, whilst Clare Nicholls adds gold luster to her porcelain heart magnets, making them an extra special gift for a loved one. However, if you’re looking for something more homely – for yourself or that special someone - Mary McFadden’s beautifully glazed hearts are lovely decorations whilst Mizuyo Yamashita’s gorgeous ceramic bowls always make great presents. If it’s jewellery you’re after, Cambridge Contemporary Crafts is sure to please! Layla Amber’s delicately drawn jewellery, unique and one-off cuffs by Sue Gregor, Alan Ardiff’s miniature kinetic jewellery which moves whilst it’s worn or Sarah Myatt’s fused glass are just a small selection of the exclusive, hand-made pieces of craftsmanship available at the gallery. If it’s a present for that special man in your life, Perfection of Production’s silk and tana lawn tweed scarves are great presents for men (and women!) as well as S J Miller’s collection of witty cufflinks. Buy something special this February; with such a lovely selection of handcrafted unique gifts and cards on show in the gallery, you and your loved ones will be spoilt for choice!
